After some hiccups and cancellations over the past 2 years, motor racing fans will once again be treated to a local spectacular with the return of the Australian F1 Grand Prix to Melbourne locked into the traditional timing, early in the race schedule. Two rounds of the Formula One 2022 season have been completed – in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, and now all eyes turn to this weekend, 7-10 April, at Albert Park in Melbourne, Victoria.
For motor racing fans the F1 Grand Prix circuit is the pinnacle of motor sport. The ultimate performance of engines, teams and drivers. For many fans, the racing can ignite a passion for these amazing machines and spark more than a little interest in owning a vehicle from one of the famous motor manufacturers represented on track.
For both fans and potential buyers, we cover off on what’s in store at the Australian F1 Grand Prix and what cheap motor vehicle finance options are available to purchase a Ferrari, McLaren or Mercedes sports car.
Australian F1 Grand Prix
The third round of the Formula One season will be at Albert Park in Melbourne over 4 days, Thursday 7th through to Sunday 10th April. The event includes an amazing line-up of motor racing and entertainment with fun and interest for fans and families.
On the track, in addition to the drawcard race, the schedule also includes rounds of Australia’s favourite Supercars, the Carrera Cup and S5000 races. Around the ground, visitors can take in exhibitions, Fan Zone, entertainment, hospitality and plenty of other attractions.
Tickets are available so why not get organised and get along to rev up your spirits.
The schedule covers four days:
- Thursday on track action includes Supercars, Historic Demos, Carrera Cup, RAAF Roulettes, S5000 and the Ultimate Speed Comparison.
- Friday and Saturday include practice sessions for the F1 teams and support races.
- Saturday is Qualifying for grid positions.
- Sunday will start with support races and the main event starts at 3pm Melbourne time.
The Contenders: Current Standings
Australian drivers have had mixed fortunes when appearing in home GPs, and local hero, Dan Ricciardo was recently quoted as saying it is a nervous time. After the first two races of the season including a DNF in Saudi Arabia, Daniel Ricciardo in his McLaren Mercedes is languishing towards bottom of the standings. But be comforted. Multiple champion Lewis Hamilton has just one point and is only in 10th position. So early days.
Max Verstappen from Red Bull is in first place in the overall standings, followed by the Ferrari drivers of Charles LeClerc and Carlos Sainz. Ferrari lead the teams standings.
While many will be hoping for a Ricciardo win or at least a podium, it’s likely the unpredictable Melbourne may have its usual influence on the race.
